  9.  AB    INTRODUCTION: ASO in South Europe (SE) are generally underdeveloped with
  10.        respect to structures and resources. On-going projects funded by the
  11.        European Community seek to promote empowerment by enhancing cooperation
  12.        among such groups in Greece and SE. OBJECTIVES: 1. To provide data on
  13.        communication between ASO in SE. 2. To present a picture of the
  14.        developing networks. METHOD: 1. Overview of the work and goals achieved
  15.        by ASO involved in such projects. 2. Interviews with members. 3.
  16.        Questionnaires. RESULTS: 1. Communication limits keep these ASO in
  17.        isolation and prevent their work from being effective. This is primarily
  18.        due to restricted resources, language barriers and bad timing. 2. The
  19.        most important factor that hinders further developement of networks is
  20.        scarcity of funds. CONCLUSION: 1. Sharing experiences can facilitate the
  21.        role of ASO in SE. 2. Contacts need to continue and expand so that ASO
  22.        which are underdeveloped may include more aspects pertaining to AIDS
  23.        services. 3. More resources need to be specifically allocated for the
  24.        purpose of enhancing exchange. 4. New organizations need encouragement
  25.        and assistance to join the networks.
